Make the best caramel sauce recipe
Making your own homemade caramel sauce is cheaper than buying it. I think it tastes better when you make it yourself.
It’s easy, not sure why I don’t do it more often than when it’s closer to the holidays. This is great to make in small jars, wrap with a ribbon and a basket of apples, instant homemade gift!
canning caramel sauce
What you need:
can of sweetened condensed milk
small canning jars, lids and bands. (makes about 4 small jars)
To start, open your can of sweetened condensed milk and pour it evenly into your clean canning jars.
Seal and hand tighten the jars and place them in your slow cooker.
Fill the slow cooker so that the jars are covered with water. You will want them to stay covered with water the entire time, so put a good 2-4 inches of water above the jars.
Put the slow cooker on low for 8 hours. Once your sweetened condensed milk reaches that pretty caramel color, it’s done. If you want a thinner consistency than mine, reduce the cook time.
You don’t want the caramel to cook to long or it can burn and taste burnt.
Remove the jars and place them on a towel on the counter. Allow them too cool. The jars should seal as they cool. You can then store the homemade caramel sauce for a few months before eating.
Taking a $1.50ish investment in sweetened milk, made 4 small jars of carmel. Instead of buying it premade.
