You may be asking why someone would bake potatoes in slow cooker. Have you ever not wanted to turn your on in the Summer? Have you been baking a large meal in the oven and had no room for baked potatoes?

These are some reasons why baking potatoes in a slow cooker, could really help you out.

What Do You Need To Bake Potatoes?

We use the following:

  • washed russet potatoes
  • olive oil
  • sea salt (or coarse salt)
  • aluminum foil
  • slow cooker

What Size Potatoes Are Used?

Large potatoes are preferred. But you can use a mix of large and small and allow your family to decide what works for them.

How Much Time Does It Take To Cook Potatoes?

Cook potatoes for 4-6 hours on high, or until they are fork tender. Place them on warm if they are done before the rest of dinner.

Do You Need To Rotate The Potatoes?

You don’t have to. If you have a full crock pot, consider rotating, so all the potatoes can touch the pot itself during cooker to all be done at the same time.

Which Potatoes Do You Slow Cooked?

We use russet potatoes as they tend to hold together better than Yukon gold or red potatoes.

Can You Make A Crockpot Baked Potatoes Bar?

A crock pot baked potatoes bar would be amazing. The heat from the slow cooker will allow the potatoes to remain warm/hot while on the bar. You can serve a baked potato bar with all the toppings like bacon, pulled pork, shredded cheese, green onions, chopped onions, chili, sour cream, and butter.

Easy Baked Potatoes In Slow Cooker

Enjoy the simplicity of perfectly baked potatoes using your slow cooker. This recipe delivers tender and flavorful spuds with minimal effort

Ingredients

  • washed russet potatoes
  • olive oil
  • coarse salt
  • shredded cheese

Instructions

  • Add the washed potatoes into a medium bowl.  
  • Take the olive oil and drizzle it over the potatoes.
  • Lay out a piece of foil big enough to go around your potato.
  • Sprinkle salt around the outside of the potatoes (to your liking)
  • Take a piece of foil big enough to go around each potato individually.  
  • Wrap the foil around the potato and place into the slow cooker.  Repeat until all the potatoes are in the slow cooker.
  • Place lid on the slow cooker.
  • Cook on high for 4-6 hours, or on low for 6-8 hours.
  • Potatoes are done when a fork is easy to pierce them.
  • Serve with butter, cheese or pulled pork. (or any toppings you like)

  1. I will have to try this tip. We love bake potatoes and I normally buy the ones that you can make in the microwave. This seems like an easy and great way to make a whole bunch of taters at once. Do you know if this technique would work with sweet potatoes? I usually eat those instead of the high carb potato.

    1. I have not tried sweet potatoes, but I’m sure they would do the same thing. Just be careful pulling sweet potatoes out of the crock pot, they tend to become very soft when cooked.
