Most everyone in my family loves meatball subs. The main ingredient is the subs are delicious Italian meatballs. They are pretty easy to make ahead and then freeze for use later. Here’s how we make them.
You will want to have a cookie sheet with edges and if possible a rack that fits into the cookie sheet to place on top of it. We lined the cookie sheet with aluminum foil with edges for easy clean up. If you do not have a rack, cook them without it.
What Makes Them Italian Meatballs?
Using Italian bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese gives these meatballs an Italian flavor. If you do not want them to taste like Italian meatballs, don’t add the cheese and use plain bread crumbs in place of the Italian bread crumbs.
How Big Do You Make the Meatballs?
We make the meatballs 1 1/2 inches in size. These are perfect size for making a sub sandwich. They are also a great size for using as an appetizer or in meatball soup.
Do You Fry or Bake Meatballs?
To make the Italian Meatballs healthier, we bake them. You can use a baking rack or cook them directly on the baking sheet. We recommend you line the baking sheet with aluminum foil.
You can serve these in your spaghetti, chop up and use them in lasagna. They are great to freeze and serve in a crockpot or in an meatball sandwich.
