How I Make Spaghetti

How I make spaghetti is not over the top. It’s something that can be elevated or simplified depending on what ingredients you have on hand and what your families tastes may be.

Like any family recipe, I have tweaked it to make it mine and my family raves about it, especially the homemade garlic bread.

How Much Time Does This Spaghetti Recipe Take?

Thirty minutes. This is perfect to make during the week and on the weekend to allow you to spend all your free time doing the things that require your attention.

Can I Use Ground Turkey Instead of Ground Beef?

Definitely. You will want to add more spices to add flavor as turkey doesn’t have a lot on its own.

We also love to eat spaghetti with garlic bread and I’ve got a garlic butter spread that is perfect to make homemade garlic bread too.  We’ve found we enjoy homemade garlic bread with our homemade spaghetti.

How Do You Cook Pasta?

The pasta water has to be like the ocean. Salty. You want salted water for your pasta. Cook spaghetti in a pot filled with water and allow it to come to a boil. Test the spaghetti noodles to make sure they are soft and then drain and place the cooked pasta into the meat sauce.

Is Olive Oil Needed?

Not for this recipe. This is how I made spaghetti, you may make it different and we are doing a 30 minute meal. With that said, you can add olive oil to your noodles and a little to your meat if you desire, your choice.

Can I Use Homemade Spaghetti Sauce?

If you have it, use it. If you don’t, using your favorite jarred sauce will be fine. You can add seasoning to the tomato sauce to fit your family.

Can I Use Marinara Sauce?

You can, you may need to add additional garlic and more seasoning (to taste) as it may have a sweeter taste.

Can I Add Vegetables?

Yes, cut up bell peppers, squash, zucchini, sauteed mushrooms or whatever veggies you want to add). Make sure to cut into small pieces for fast cooking.

How Can I Make This Even Healthier?

Use zucchini noodles on top of adding vegetables into your sauce. Use the zucchini noodles in place of regular pasta noodles.

Adding Fresh Basil

If you are adding fresh herbs, like basil, you will need to add more than you would with dried. Dried herbs are more concentrated. Be sure to chop the herbs up finely as well.

Can This Be Made With Italian Sausage?

If it is your preference to use Italian sausage, do so. If you have hamburger meat, use that as well.
