Making Coffee Ice Cream

Do you love coffee?  Can’t get enough of it?  Have you discovered coffee ice cream? You can make it easily with some heavy cream, vanilla extract and of course coffee.  And the best part, you can add as little or more coffee to the recipe to control how strong the flavor is.

I have seen recipes making coffee ice cream with cold coffee, but I wanted a real rich flavor of coffee in the ice cream.  Something you could turn into a shake, put a dollop in your cup of coffee enjoy with delicious coffee cake, pumpkin or apple pie.

If you have a favorite base ice cream, you could certainly change it up with this recipe as well and enjoy your own ice cream.  Make fun ice cream sandwiches.

You can certainly swap this out for whole milk to reduce the fat content.

Does This Ice Cream Need Egg Yolks?

You do not need egg yolks to make this recipe. Anytime you do make an ice cream with egg yolks, it should be heated on the stove and then cooled to freeze.

What Kind of Coffee Flavor Is Used?

Some recipes will call for strongly brewed coffee. Some recipes may call for coffee flavor or instant coffee granules. If you decide to use a strong coffee, make sure it is a good coffee that you like to drink. If you are adding liquid coffee, be careful with how much water you are adding. Water can change how the ice cream freezes (It could get really hard and you would just need to thaw longer before serving)

Can I Just Add Instant Coffee to Ice Cream?

You sure can!  You will want to get the ice cream melty and add it in.  Be sure to stir well and then freeze it a little to firm it up if it melted too much.  You might want to start by using vanilla ice cream, or chocolate chip ice cream for a more mocha coffee mix.
