Flavor Filled Orange Chicken
When someone in your family loves orange chicken, you want to make it for them and have it turn out well. After trying a few recipes, we’ve put together a recipe that received a thumbs up from my son.
I use popcorn chicken in my recipe, because it’s easy and we have it on hand. I keep any extra sauce in a mason jar in the fridge. This lets us make this dish quickly with the remaining orange sauce.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup orange juice (we used one with lots of pulp)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup rice vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon of fresh)
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
bag of popcorn chicken
cooked rice (we cooked 2 cups of rice)
Instructions:
Start cooking your chicken and your rice per package directions.
Add all the liquid ingredients together in a large pan (this does boil).
Begin to cook on medium heat.
In a bowl add the brown sugar and corn starch together and stir.
Add the ginger and garlic into the brown sugar mix and stir well so there are no lumps,
Add the garlic into the liquid mix.
Next, pour the brown sugar mix into the pot and stir well to incorporate.
Continue to stir to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Bring to a boil and remove from heat to cool. The sauce should thicken to almost a gravy consistency.
Allow the chicken to simmer in the sauce for 5-6 minutes, stirring to keep it from burning on the bottom.
Remove and serve over the rice.
