Easy Instant Pot Steamed Rice
Making rice can be tricky. It was until using an Instant Pot. No more standing over a pot and guessing when it’s done. Making perfect steamed rice is easy when you measure things out and press a button. Once it beeps, you have perfectly cooked rice.
We use mixed vegetables with steamed rice and serve with orange chicken.
White or Brown Cooking Rice?
It’s a personal preference on which rice you use when steaming rice.
Brown rice does require you add an additional 1/4 cup of water into the Instant Pot when steaming a cup of rice.
Can You Add Vegetables To Rice and Steam?
You sure can. Rice doubles in volume when cooked. One cup of rice becomes 2. We match with a cup of vegetables to our 1 cup of dry rice and add 1/4 cup of extra water to help with steaming.
What Is The Difference Between Steamed and Boiled Rice?
Boiled rice is submerged in water and is on a 2 to 1 ration of water to rice. Steamed rice is a 1 to 1 ration (when white rice). Brown rice requires a little more water.
How Long Does it Take to Steam Rice?
One cup of rice takes 12 minutes to make steamed rice in the Instant Pot. You can do a natural or quick release on the IP, whichever you prefer.

- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup frozen vegetables (optional)
Instructions
- Add the rice and water into the Instant Pot.
- If you are using brown rice, you should add 1/4 cup additional water per 1 cup rice.
- Add the vegetables and veggies.
- Select the Rice option on your Instant Pot.
- If you don't have that option, select 12 minutes on high pressure.
- Allow the rice too cook and you can do natural or quick release.
- Serve and enjoy.

Can I Just Use a Rice Cooker to Make Rice?
You can use a rice cooker to cook rice. But if your kitchen is limited in space, you may want to have appliances that are multipurpose to keep space free for other appliances.
What Kind of Rice Can You Use in the Instant Pot?
You can use white rice, brown rice, basmati rice, short grain rice, medium grain rice, jasmine rice. Really any dried rice can be used in the Instant Pot, just read the package for any special cooking instructions on the amount of water needed.
