Stay at the Landmark Inn Downtown Marquette Michigan
My family recently took a trip through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We stopped for a couple days of exploring in and around Marquette Michigan. We were really excited to stay at the Landmark Inn in downtown Marquette. Wow just doesn’t cover this hotel. Thanks to the Landmark for having us and allowing me to share my experience with you.
Landmark Inn Marquette – Beautiful Historic Hotel
Have you been to Marquette Michigan? You need to add it to your must see destinations in Michigan. The Landmark Inn is the perfect place to stay while you are visiting the area. The hotel is located in the downtown district, making it a great place to stay and visiting the local attractions. Pictured Rock is an easy drive and Northern Michigan University is also located here. Downtown Marquette has a lot going on to see, eat and do. And you can’t forget nearby Lakenenland Sculpture Park.
History of the Landmark Inn
Building for the hotel began in 1917 and was completed in 1930. It was originally named the Northland Hotel and was renovated in 1995. It’s easy to see why so many celebrities have stayed here. The hotel has maintained its charm with functional and modern amenities, elegant decorations and luxurious furniture. Amelia Earhart, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Stewart, George C Scott and many more have walked the hallways and stayed in the hotel.
There are two on-site restaurants so you can relax eat and stay on the hotel grounds if you just want to unwind. You can find a bar on the 6th floor that serves food from both downstairs restaurants. Enjoy the beautiful large windows that look out over the city from the bar.
The Room – Inside View of the Landmark Inn
Our room was named after Dick Estell (The Radio Reader that would read novels on the radio). We had a spacious double queen room and a sizeable bathroom as well. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were fluffy, giving the perfect amount of support. If there were other people in the hotel, we did not hear a lot of noise in the hallway.
The Food at the Landmark Inn
We did eat at the Piedmont (one of the two restaurant in the hotel). The other restaurant is the Northland Pub (and English style pub) with beautiful stained glass. The Piedmont is an Italian restaurant. Our kids ate all their food (which is usually unheard of!) My husband is still raving about the pasta he had there is well. We love it when we find good food while traveling. Check it out and the chandelier in the Piedmont that was salvaged from Old Marquette City Hall.
Landmark Inn Marquette MI Location
We found the hotel to be very affordable, family friendly and convenient. Located in downtown Marquette, I found that the hotel was in walking distance to local businesses and specialty shops. A short stroll away, I found a delicious little bakery tucked into the side of a building.
I had the opportunity to talk to the staff, not only at check in, but we had other questions. I found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
We missed a few items on our bucket list for visiting in Marquette (always email your bucket list to yourself, so you have a copy). We are definitely going to be visiting again and will be looking forward to our next stay at the Landmark Inn. Make sure you also stop on your way down Michigan, to Mackinac Island and see the Grand Hotel as well.
