Fluffy Chocolate Frosting for Cakes, Brownies, and Cupcakes

How To Make Homemade Chocolate Frosting
This chocolate frosting recipe is my go to recipe when I need to pair with anything chocolate. It’s made with butter and powdered sugar, making it easy to pull together when your baking.
From cake, to brownies, microwave cakes to cupcakes. It is a recipe my mom got from my grandma. She used it on her salad dressing cake she would make.

What You’ll Love About This Frosting
- Versatile enough to pair with cakes, brownies, microwave desserts, or cupcakes.
- Fluffy texture that spreads easily on cakes, brownies, and cupcakes.
- Simple ingredients you already have in your pantry: butter, powdered sugar, cocoa.
- Quick to make in under 10 minutes.
- Family recipe passed down from grandma, tested and loved for generations.

How Do I Fix Runny Frosting?
While mixing, add more powdered sugar until the frosting reaches the right consistency. If it looks shiny, add more sugar. If it becomes too thick, add a splash of milk. You can refrigerate to stiffen, but note it may spread less easily.
Can I Use Dark Chocolate Instead of Cocoa Powder?
Yes. Taste as you go to balance sweetness. If it’s bitter or too thick, add milk or water and more powdered sugar.

Can I Make This Frosting Ahead of Time?
Yes. Store in a sealed container in the fridge. Bring to room temperature before using. Always start with room temperature butter for the best creamy texture.
How Can You Make Frosting Creamy?
Beat on high speed with a hand mixer to aerate. This lightens the color and adds volume.

Is This Like Chocolate Ganache?
No. Ganache is heated and tempered. This frosting is quick, easy, and requires no heating.

Variations
- Extra Rich Frosting: Use melted dark chocolate instead of cocoa powder.
- Mocha Frosting: Add 1 teaspoon espresso powder.
