Freqently Asked Questions

Can I use alcohol free beer in beer bread

Yes. Alcohol free beer still has carbonation, which is what helps the bread rise. Choose a flavor you enjoy because it will come through in the loaf.

What kind of beer works best for cheese beer bread

Lager gives the deepest flavor, but any beer works. Light beer, amber beer, or flavored beer will all change the taste slightly. Pick a beer you enjoy drinking.

What can I use instead of beer

Club soda or seltzer water are great substitutes. The carbonation helps the bread rise and gives you a similar texture.

What kind of cheese is best for beer bread

Sharp cheddar melts well and adds bold flavor. You can mix in parmesan or use a blend of cheeses if you want a richer loaf.

Do I need to let beer bread rise

No. This is a no rise bread. Spread the batter evenly in the pan and bake.

What do I serve with cheese beer bread

This bread pairs well with chili, potato soup, barbecue chicken, ribs, or creamy vegetable soups. It also makes great croutons once dried.

Why is my beer bread dense

Beer bread is naturally dense, but overmixing can make it heavier. Stir until the batter is just combined.

Can I double the recipe

Yes. Bake two separate loaves or use a larger pan.

Why is my crust too dark

Your oven may run hot. Lower the temperature slightly or tent the loaf with foil during the last part of baking.

Can I add more cheese

Yes. You can add up to one extra cup of shredded cheese for a richer, cheesier loaf.
