I love old windows.  I have a small collection of them and enjoy finding things to do with them.  Taking farmhouse windows and using the window frames, is a rustic farmhouse feel for the holiday.  Thanks to  Rust-Oleum for sending me paint for my window frame decor project.

  • 1 can Rust-Oleum paint

  • ornaments

Making window frame decorations

You will want to paint your frame in a well ventilated area. Your frame may need a couple coats. You are not going for perfection. We are going for rustic worn look,ย so it will be uneven.

Take two ย hooks and place them in a corner on the top of the window frames on opposite sides. Attach hanging wire to one of the hooks and secure. Take to the other end of the wire and secure on the other hook and twist. The wire should have a little give and not taunt.

More hooks need to be added, this time on the top of where the window should be (and on the back side). ย Put ย 2-3 hooks in (as many as you desire) on each window. ย

TIP: ย I found it best to (tap) pound the hooks in with a hammer before starting to twist them in.

Take the nails and place 1 on each end about an inch in from the end. Place one in the middle as well. ย This will allow the garland to hang on the frame without falling out. The nails should stick up at least an inch.

Adding the bling steps

Take the ornaments and thread the ribbon through the eye hooks. Thread through the ornaments top and then tie at the bottom near the ornament in a bow. Cut the excess ribbon. Hang the ornaments in various heights.

Take the evergreen garland and measure out the length of the window frame on 3 sides. Take the tinsel garland and without cutting it to size yet, wrap it around the evergreen garland and then trim to size once you are done.

Place the garland onto the window frame and weave around the 3 nails on top to secure. (I found it worked best while hanging the frame on the wall and doing this.

Take the bead garland and weave it around the window frame.

When it is complete, you should have a beautiful window frame for your home.

This window frame can be updated for other holidays as the garland and ornaments can be removed making this so versatile, your family and friends will ask what’s in your window now? You will need to coordinate your door wreath in another DIY project.
