Homemade Strawberry Buttercream Frosting

Take your frosting from amazing to mind blowing with homemade strawberry frosting. It’s perfect to take any cake and add a delicious surprise of flavor. We’ve paired this frosting with a delicious lemon cake, to give you a strawberry lemonade of Summer.

What Ingredients Are Need?

  • softened butter
  • powdered sugar
  • strawberry powder
  • vanilla extract
  • strained strawberry syrup/juice
  • milk

Can I Use Fresh Strawberries In Frosting?

Using whole fresh strawberries will change the texture of the frosting. The strawberries will breakdown and become soggy. We recommend using the juice from strawberries mixed with sugar and powdered strawberries to keep give the texture you expect. You could always sprinkle fresh strawberries onto the top.

Can I Use Freeze Dried Strawberries?

You can definitely use freeze dried strawberries. If you have dehydrated strawberries, you can turn them into powder and use them too.

What Kind of Cakes Pair Well With This Frosting?

Strawberry frosting works well with white, yellow, chocolate cakes. We’ve even used this with a lemon cake for a delicious strawberry flavor. If you want to add more strawberry flavor, you can add a strawberry puree or crushed strawberries as a layer between your cake slices (with some frosting. You can also use this strawberry buttercream in a strawberry cake for a total strawberry on strawberry mash up of flavor.

Tips For Making Frosting:

  • Taste as you add strawberry to make sure it has the strawberry flavor you want.
  • Add additional freeze dried strawberry powder (or dehydrated strawberries) to give more flavor.
  • Decorate the cake when the cake has cooled and the frosting is room temperature.
  • Serve fresh cut strawberries on top of your dessert for added flavor.
  • Use strawberry extract or strawberry syrup for added flavor.
  • To thin the frosting add additional strawberry syrup or vanilla extract.
  • Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to make your frosting light and fluffy.
  • The cake needs to cool completely before frosting or the frosting will melt into the cake.

Buttercream Strawberry Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 Tablespoons dehydrated strawberries (or strawberry powder?
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3-4 teaspoons strawberry syrup from strawberries sitting with 2 teaspoons of sugar on them
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk only use what is needed to smooth out the frosting

Instructions

  • Take sliced strawberries and put a couple of teaspoons of sugar on them and mix together. Set aside and let sit.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the butter and whipped to smooth.
  • Add powdered sugar a little at a time, about half.
  • Mix in the vanilla and strawberry powder.
  • Add in the rest of the powdered sugar and mix.
  • Add the strawberry syrup and mix together.
  • Add in a little milk at a time. You want the frosting to be creamy, but not a liquid. It should look like frosting, easy to spread. If it's stiff, it may need a little milk.
  • If the frosting gets a little to wet, you can add a little more powdered sugar at a time until you get the right consistency.
  • Spread it on your cake, cupcakes, brownies or cookies and enjoy.
