- apples

These simple ingredients come together to create a moist, flavorful bread topped with a buttery crumble that makes every bite irresistible.

The Best Apples for Apple Bread
Choosing the right apple can make a big difference in your finished loaf.
Some great baking apples include:
- Fuji
- Granny Smith
- Gala
Look for apples that soften well during baking while still holding some texture. These varieties provide the perfect balance of sweetness and flavor in homemade apple crumble cinnamon bread.

How to Cut Apples for Apple Bread
For best results, cut your apples into approximately ½-inch pieces.
Smaller apple chunks bake more evenly throughout the loaf and help prevent the fruit from sinking to the bottom. Uniform pieces also ensure every slice gets plenty of apple flavor.

What Should the Batter Look Like?
Don’t expect a thin, pourable batter.
This apple bread batter is thick, similar to muffin batter and often slightly thicker depending on the humidity in your kitchen. A thicker batter helps support the apples and creates a moist loaf with great texture.

How Long Does Apple Crumble Cinnamon Bread Need to Bake?
Baking time will vary depending on the size of your loaf pans.
Full Size Loaf
Bake approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.
Mini Loaves
Bake approximately 1 hour.
You’ll know the bread is done when:
- A toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- The top is golden brown.
- The loaf springs back lightly when touched.
Avoid removing the bread too early. Underbaked bread can sink in the center and have a gummy texture.

Storage Tips
Store cooled bread in an airtight container at room temperature for several days.
For longer storage, wrap the loaves tightly and freeze for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature when you’re ready to enjoy another slice.
Perfect for Gifting
This cinnamon apple crumble bread makes a thoughtful homemade gift during the holidays, throughout apple season, or anytime you want to share something special. Mini loaves are especially convenient for gift baskets and neighbor gifts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any type of apple?
Baking apples work best. Granny Smith, Gala, and Fuji are excellent choices because they soften nicely while baking and provide great flavor.
Why are my apples sinking to the bottom?
Large apple chunks are often the culprit. Cutting the apples into approximately ½-inch pieces helps them stay distributed throughout the loaf.
Can I make this recipe in mini loaf pans?
Yes. Mini loaves work wonderfully for this recipe and make great homemade gifts. Baking time is usually around one hour.
How do I know when the bread is finished baking?
Insert a toothpick into the center of the loaf. If it comes out clean, the bread is done. If batter remains on the toothpick, continue baking and check again every few minutes.
Can I freeze apple crumble cinnamon bread?
Absolutely. Allow the bread to cool completely, wrap it tightly, and freeze for up to three months.
Is the batter supposed to be thick?
Yes. The batter should be similar to muffin batter and thicker than many quick bread recipes. This helps support the apples and creates a moist finished loaf.

Just made this recipe and baked at 350° for 50 minutes and used a toothpick to check for fineness. Let it cool and the center flopped in and it was not done. What did I do wrong?

Hi Judy. I remade this and it needs to cook longer. We cooked ours for 1 1/2 hours.
Hi Regina this recipe looks yummy, I’m going to try it later. Lots of friends have given me apples and this is just the recipe to use them up. I’m in the UK and in lockdown at the moment so baking mad. Always wanted an ‘Olde English Tea Shop’ so now living my dream making cakes and preserves for neighbours and friends in return for donations to charity.
The weather here at the moment is also pretty miserable with torrential rain and strong winds so doesn’t help lift the mood of these difficult times.
I’m a traveller too but that has been whisked from under my feet. I returned from the States in March (the last flight to London that day) as had been staying with my partner furnishing a new apartment. We have not seen each other since then as all flights not allowed unless essential for work, business etc.
I hope you and your family are keeping well, safe, and free from this awful virus. Keep baking and creating!
Thanks for visiting. I too have become more of a baker, than a traveler as we stay in place.
Thank you for your kind words. Stay safe!
