How to Repurpose Glass Bottles with Chalk Paint
My son wanted to collect sand from our trips to the great lakes in Michigan. When I looked online, the bottles were super expensive to purchase. I needed to find a way to save money and decided to repurpose glass bottles we already had.
Repurpose Glass Bottles
Since the kids like to drink Snapple. I decided to repurpose the Snapple bottles an use them for his sand collection. The hardest part is to drink enough bottles for your collect. The second hardest part is making sure you remember to label your sand so you don’t mix them up.
What you’ll need:
empty (and washed) glass bottles (we used Snapple bottles and kept the lids)
Chalk paint & a small brush
Take the chalk paint and ensure it is stirred. I went with black. Pick the color you want.
how to make your own holiday ornaments
Apply a very thin coat. If you don’t it will run. You will need to allow it to dry and apply 3-4 additional coats.
You can tape off the bottles if you want to. I preferred a more rustic display and did not.
Once you have placed all the coats on and they have dried over night, you can take chalk and rub on the paint. You do this to prime your paint to write on. Do this a couple times.
Your paint might not be perfectly smooth. This is rustic, it’s ok to not be perfect.
We’ve also tried our had at making ornaments, etching cabinet glass and dishes and other items. What will you try next?
