how to make a farmhouse coat rack great again
diy farmhouse coat rack refab project
We found an old farmhouse coat rack in a pile of wood in our barn. The varnish was dried up and coming off and a hook was broke. It had beautiful hooks, but some broken. I repurposed this coat rack, back into a coat rack, easy. See how you can refinish something old and give it live again with a little paint.
What you’ll need:
paint for board
paint for hooks (possibly new hooks)
sander
Start by removing all the hooks from the board. We had one screw that would not come out. I left it in and painted around it.
Sand the board to remove the previous finish. I only needed to use light sanding paper. You may need to use a more aggressive paper. Be sure it is smooth for paint. Wipe down with a cloth if needed also.
Paint the hooks. I used a black spray paint. Allow to dry overnight. I also painted the screws to match.
Paint the board and allow to dry.
Put the hooks back on the board.
You can drill holes if needed to hang on the wall.
