Family Fun Destination Castaway Bay | Sandusky Ohio
Family Fun Year-Round at Castaway Bay
Thanks to Castaway Bay for providing me an opportunity to stay at their family fun vacation destination and provide you my honest opinion of their resort.Castaway Bay – Family Fun Central
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio is the place to be. Cloudy, rainy, cold or sunny weather draw us to Castaway Bay for a fun getaway. It’s always 82 degrees here and being from Michigan, that is appreciated. Here you can enjoy the waves, water and a cold drink. Kids of all ages will love spending time in the water park as there is a variety of things to do.
We stayed in a room overlooking the water. The kids really enjoyed watching the ducks and seagulls. It took about 15 minutes for them to get in their suits and want to head down to the water park area.
The Water Park
When you check in, you get your wrist bands, your wrist band is scanned when you enter the water park. Just behind the check in point of the water park, is an area you can check how tall your child is. This helps you know what areas they can go into. Both my kids were able to do everything on their own safely. There are life jackets you can use for free for safety where needed.
I recommend the hot tub for the adults (and kids) to try out. You can sit inside or outside in the hot tub! You will want to experience it in the snowy Winter and a starry Summer night.
Check out Big Daddy’s for snacks for you and the kids. You can set it up when you check in, to use your room key to pay for incidentals. Be ware of the shark!
Enjoy Club Castaway
Be sure to check out Club Castaway, located on the 3rd floor of the resort. Get an itinerary from the front desk called Island Times. You can then see the activity schedule for the time you are there. The itinerary also tells you the schedule of when you can see Snoopy and the rest of the Peanut gang. There are movies, karaoke, dance parties and more at Club Castaway.
Dinner Onsite
There is food onsite for breakfast thru dinner, so you don’t need to leave the resort. This works well for us and not everyone is willing to get in the car or decide on what we want. We enjoyed eating at Quaker Steak & Lube for dinner. It is decorated with lots of race themed items and lots of things to check out while waiting for your food.
It’s important to remember that many people eat onsite, so there are busy times. Prepare ahead and come in before you (or your kids) are starving to prevent melt downs. I had a awesome hamburger with no bun and my husband had the ribs. The kids had grilled cheese and chicken tenders. Everyone left with a happy tummy.
We stopped by Ebb and Eddy’s for a snack after dinner. There were delicious muffins, donuts, cookies ice cream and coffee. The cookies were ‘mushy’ (soft) just like my son likes them (everyone enjoyed a bite). The muffins were huge and a tasty treat also.
Lots of Play Time
The water park is open long hours, so there is always room for a evening swim and adventure. Letting the kids go back to the water (which will exhaust them and make them sleep) is always a great way for us to get the kids to night fight about going to bed. They pass out from exhaustion on their own.
Check out is at 11 am, but you are invited to stay after that and enjoy the park. There are lockers onsite you can use to store your clothes to change into.
Enjoy Breakfast Onsite
Grabbing breakfast in the morning at Mango Mikes is perfect. This is also located within the resort. It is a buffet style breakfast. The food is very kid friendly with fruits, yogurt, granola, bacon, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, french toast, eggs, hash browns, breads, pastries and more. My kids left with full happy bellies. Drinks are included in the price and it is an all you can eat buffet.
