To prepare topping, mix the ingredients in a bowl.
Using a knife, cut off the top of the apple, about 1/4 slice off.
Then cut out core down to about ½ inch from apple bottom. (this worked well using a spoon) If your apples don't stand up, remove a thin slice from bottom of apple to flatten the bottom, so it stands up.
Pack the apples to the top, with a little rounding outside of the apple.
Repeat with remaining apples, and arrange in a 8x8 pan.
Bake the apples for 30-35 minutes, or until apples are fork tender.

The bigger the apple, you may need to increase your baking time to get the soft.Can you freeze baked apples? Yes. Be sure to store them in a freezer container.When coring the apple, remove the seeds, but leave as much apple as possible.For a variety, you could add 1/2 cup of pecans or raisins.
