Shetler Dairy Farm
A couple years ago we got some milk that tasted really good while on vacation in Honor Michigan. I think we needed milk for our cookies. The name on the bottle was Shetler. Fast forward to this year and our trip up north. All my husband can talk about is getting more milk. Online he found Shetler dairy farm was located in Kalkaska. He wanted to visit. We made it happen.
UPDATE: The Shetler Dairy Farm is now closed and looking for a new owner. The owners have died and their children have put it up for sale.
about the farm
This is a pretty amazing family owned and operated dairy farm. They have about 34 dairy cows that they milk. At their farm, they have a store you can buy their products (milk, cheese, ice cream & more!). We were there when they were filling bottles, it was pretty cool to watch. They have their very own milk processing plant. Their products are hormone-free and antibiotic-free. The milk is in glass bottles and is sold within the northwestern lower Michigan region. More details can be found on their site.
You can feel safe drinking their milk. They boast their cows are not on drugs. They are on grass. As in they eat natural grass.
things to see
If that wasn’t enough, there are some pretty cool baby cows (calves) we got to see while we were there. You can have a photo opportunity in front of the barn with a cut out of as a farmer/wife or with cow statues.
Check out the dairy cow out front as you pull in. It is a masterpiece to behold and look at. Someone is very talented.
There is a small play area of this really cool tractor as well. maybe you can also find like I did, the small tractor built with old farm parts.
This was a great place to visit. Be sure to check out their Facebook page as they have different activities going on to really have a great time.
