Pita’s are not the prettiest sandwich, no one says, please make me a Pita.
But what if you went and made it fun? That is how I get my kids to try new things and it becomes something they ask me to pack for them. Makes it easier to come up with a meal to make for their school lunch.
We make a list of things we need to make their school lunch favorites and run to Kroger and get everything you need. I love their bread selection!
Approximate cost for this lunch: $1.63
What you’ll need:
Pita cut in half (you will only need half, unless you have a big kid, then make 2!
1 slice Kroger Medium sharp cheddar (or your favorite cheese slice)
cookie cutter shaped like glasses or use a small circle cookie cutter.
2 black olives cut in half so you have the big holes for the eyes.
10-15 2 inch long, 1/2 thick strips of cheddar cheese (for hair)
10-15 2 inch long, 1/4 in thick honey ham cut into strips like hair.
2 kiwi peeled and sliced
1 cup Cheez Its
1/2 cup Keebler stripe cookies
With the 1/2 Pita, open it and place the ham and cheese all the way to the bottom (without tearing the bread to pieces).
Place the cheese cut in circles (or eye glasses) on the outside of the pita and secure it with 2 toothpicks. Secure the black olives on the pita on top of the cheese with toothpicks as well. (I recommend colored toothpicks as they are easier to see).
From the left over cheese from cutting out the eye, cut out a funny smile and use a toothpick to pin it on the pita.
This all fits perfectly in your lunch in Tupperware. The Pita fits in the larger sandwich box, the Cheez Its in the Lil Bowl giving you a cup of Cheez its, snack ups are great for the kiwi and Keebler mini stripe cookies.
Lunches taste so much better when made with love. Your kids will love it and you will love the savings shopping at Kroger offers.
