Have you considered a brined turkey for the holidays? For years we had not done this. It is more steps and it makes a flavorful turkey that is juicy and delicious. And then one year we made a brined turkey. It was even better and worth it for our family use this recipe for turkey brine.
We have used this wet brine for turkey breasts and have used it on an entire turkey. You can use this same recipe, just additional water around the entire turkey while it was in the brine and less for the turkey breast. Use an appropriate size pot to submerge they turkey completely.
Easy Recipe For Brine Turkey
For this recipe you will need:
- hot water
- cold water
- canning salt (can use coarse kosher salt)
- sugar
- bay leaves
Do You Leave The Brine On The Turkey To Bake?
The brine is washed off the turkey after leaving it soak for 12-24 hours. You will want to carefully wash the salt off the turkey. Clean up all surfaces the turkey has touched as well for sanitary reasons.
How Do You Brine A Turkey?
Mix water, sugar, and salt to create the brine. Submerge the turkey in the brine for a minimum of 12 hours; overnight works best. Take the turkey out of the brine, wash it, and proceed to bake it as usual.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup canning salt can use course salt
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 cups hot water
- 4+ cup water to cover the turkey
Instructions
- In a large pitcher or bowl add 4 cups hot water and mix in sugar and salt.
- Stir until the sugar and salt dissolve.
- Add 4 cups cold water and mix.
- Add the turkey into a large pot and pour the bring over the turkey/turkey breasts.
- Add the bay leaves.
- Fill the pot covering over the turkey. You may need to put a bowl in the pot to keep the turkey from floating to the top.
- Place in the fridge to keep cool for 12 – 24 hours.
- .When done, drain the pot and wash off the salt brine from the turkey.
- Pat down the turkey and then add your seasoning to cook the turkey.
