From old and tired to fabulous. Give your old furniture a needed face lift. This DIY end table was fun.
I got this end table at a local antique shop for$25. It was much cheaper than the ones I was finding on craigslist and at flea markets and it was in great shape. This table looked like it was from the 80s, but was very solid and sturdy.
It was pretty easy to turn this end table from geeky looking to a chic relevant table for my decor.
What you will need:
end table
white and black paint
sander with coarse grit and fine grit sandpaper
DIY End table project
Take any hardware off before you start and remove drawers.
You will want to take the sander out side to sand.
Sand out and inperfections and rough up the surface. Start with the coarse sand paper and finish with the fine grit paper so it’s smooth.
You rough it up so it will accept paint.
If you need wood filler because their are big gaps, you will want to put that in, allow to dry and sand down.
Remove paint from the hardware and paint an accent color if you desire (our knobs are wood, we made them match).
I painted the end table with black paint.
Allowed it to dry, then painted over it with white.
I put two coat of white paint.
I sanded lightly to allow some of the black to show throw.
You have a few options on how to finish the piece.
- polyurethane
- wax
- nothing
Use other colors to make your decor or create an accent peace. It’s pretty simple.
