I wanted to give the kids something to do, get their creative side. So I decided I would make the pantry door in the kitchen a chalkboard.
It was pretty simple. I used Rustoleums Chalkboard paint. I taped off the area I wanted to paint with Frog tape (yellow) and pressed it down pretty good.
Now, I will mention that I had this brilliant idea that I would make it magnetic and I used Rust-oleum’s Magnetic paint. It was hard to stir and I didn’t follow the instructions about using a roller, so it was bumpy afterwards (I’m sure it would have been find if I had used a roller).
So I put 3 coats of Rust-oleum Chalkboard Paint and it evened out somewhat, but good enough for a door I know we will be replacing because it’s broken.
Follow the instructions for drying. I let it dry over night before ‘seasoning’ (running chalk sideways over the entire board).
The kids LOVE writing on it. We have went through half a box of chalk in a week.
To clean it, we just wipe it down with a wet cloth.
I definitely recommend using this, it was totally worth the cost and works.
Ooh, that’s a really good idea. It would be great for keeping notes and lists on! It could also be used as something to keep track of who has done their chores.
We have added chores to the top of the board and the rewards if those are completed.
This is such a great idea and a fun way to get organized. I totally pinned this.
Thanks Laura! I love it too!
This is a great idea! We live in a small space and I love ideas that allow for things that won’t take up floor space!
I agree. I hate bringing new things in, when you can utilize what you have already.
What a brilliant idea! No more messy post-it notes or an untidy fridge door overloaded with messages for me!
Thanks for sharing this!
Nothing falling off either! I do love this and good bye sticky notes!
Love it! My kids would love some chalk play indoor and I wouldn’t have to buy and look for a place for an easle.
So much easier than an easel Carmen. less space for sure!
What a great idea. I love how it can change the whole look of a room. Thanks for sharing!
It can. I think it gives it a retro homey look. Considering doing my cupboard doors.
That’s a good idea. I’m always leaving myself post-it notes to remember things. I lose them. It’d be great to simply write it down then erase later.
We are saving so much paper now, just using this and writing down things for the kids to do (at the top). Love it!
This was an ingenious idea – I am not great at painting so I think I will ask for help doing this because I know the kids are going to use it and it will keep them entertained.
I
It wasn’t too hard to do, but definitely get some help if you are unsure.
I definitely want to do this when my kiddos are old enough to not eat the chalk, lol. Great idea!
I hope your kids enjoy this as much as mine do, Michelle!
I would love to do this for my kids! Maybe a chalkboard wall…….oh the possibilities!
I will admit I’m obsessed with trying to see what all I can use it on.
I love chalkboards for little ones. My older girls painted over theirs and within a week were complaining about missing their board!
We never had issues with coloring where they shouldn’t.. oh this brings back so many memories.
My kids enjoy this a lot. I wish I would have done it sooner. May do this on their doors on their closet doors.
